URGING 31 15 PARTICIPATION IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF
SMALL BOAT 11AR0OR FACTIITIES
WHEREAS, the island. city of Alameda has provided aquatic
recreation for an ever growing Sari Francisco EaT area; and
WHEREAS, boating has continuously been an important leisure activity
in this conmunity and is growing in popularity everywh(.re; and
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda has long recognized the need for small boat
facilities and. has had an officially adoptsd Master Flan for Shoreline Development
since 1947 that indicates boat harbors of regional importance; and
WHEREAS, the expanding industrial development along the shoreline of most
counties facing San From:else° Bay has materially reduced the number of suitable
small boat harbors; and
WHEREAS, the City- of Alamed a. is deeply concerned over the lack of harborage
in the face of a mountimg public demand for small boat facilities both locally and
throughout the State;
NOW THEREFORE, BE 11 RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA that
said Council does hereby call upon and. urge the Legislature of the State of California
to take positive ateps toward the establishment and Implementation of a program for
State participation in the development of small beatharbors and maTine redreation
facilities in the Bay area and throughout• California.
BE II' ETI-DR RESOLVED that said City Gouncil envisions the responsibility
of the. State in this program to include financial, tecnnical, and liaison assistance
to communities or other jurisdictions with approved boat harbor projects to the. end
that the •needed facilities will be constructed and. the objectives of the program
fulfilled.
