Resolution 05763RESOLUTION NO. 5763 RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY CF ALAMEDA URGING AND REQUESTING THAT THE FEDERAL EXCISE TAX . ON TELEPHONE SERVICE BE REPEALED. WHEREAS, the excise tax on telephone service was o ar time measure, intended to discoura4e the 0,36 of vital communication facilities; and WHEREAS, the need for such has lomr . since ceased; and WHEREAS, the telephone is a necessity in our modern economy and tinder no circumstances may be termed a luxury; and WHEEEAS, naid excise tax is discriminatory in that othar vital utility services are not to taxed; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF i616 CITY OF ALAMEDA that the Congress of the United States is hereby urged and requested to repeal the bur- densome and highly discriminatory telephone excise tax. 5E IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of Alameda in hereby directed to transmit certified copies of this resolution to all pertinent parties. * * * * * * * * * * I, the undersiFred, hereby certify that ,the roregni g Resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted by the Council of the City of Alameda in regu- lar meeting assembled on the ist day of April, 1956, by the following vote, to wit: A5'5-: Councilman Collischoun, Freeman, Petersen, Schacht and President McCall, (5).
