In the event any of the aforementioned holidays shaDi within the vacation period
of said employees, the Department Head. shall etdrillIDe whgther the employees affectcd

thIs paragraph. provided, or be alloved additional vacation tirr to compensate for the
loss of such holiday or holidays.
3. Overtime work is defined as all Ume Dhich a City employee, excepting
part-time employees, division or department heads, is required to perform 1» excess of
the number of Dours per weak regularly scheduled for Lis position; except thut in any
week during which a holiday or holidays occur, the holiday or 0 (1 1<1
included in comDati.ng the basic work week.
At the discretion of the Department Head, overtimp 7,7111 be compensated by
(a)
such time off from employmDlit with puy as is equal to the amount of
time worked in expess of 's!' work hours per week for such classifica-
tion; or

times the rate paid for services perfortred during normal work houDs.

fully issued by a court of law or other fbrum lawfully posspssing the ppwer of 1', 11 to appear at such. court or fordn, shall be allowed time off wiDhout loss of
pay for such. an appearance occurring during such empleyea=,' normal working hours;
such time off shall be lfriited to the amount of tine said emDaoyee is actualfly

5. Promotions. A promotion, for salary purposes, may be defined as appo
ment to a poson in a class with a higDer maximum ,3ala1 y than the one previously held.
An employee being promoted. from one class to another will be placed in the beginning
sten for the newDlass or the flr8t step of the new seDDry range which is higher than
thD one he is currently occupying, whichever is higher. If, during the ensuing year
from the date of promotion he would !Dave cmoved to P. step with a salary equal to or
hiuher than he has received upon promotion, he shall bP advanced to the next step in
his new salary an on the same data he would have advanced. had he remained in the
lower classification, and this date shall be Lis anniversary date for future step
Increases while in the clae,sification to wDich. he has been promoted. In all other
cases, advmneement to the next step shall be at the completion of one year in the new
class, unless appointment is at the first step of his salary ranDe, in 'I< 1< case

6. All salaries end compensations, as fixed by this Resolution, shall bo
payable, ir arDears, on the Dth and on the 20th, 1_ of eac calendar month. provided,
that when any such day Tails on a lemal holiday, payment shall be Made, on the next
preceding business day.
7. The salaries and rates of compensation as fixed. by. this Resolution
shIDIft be effective as of and after July I, 1959.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all other resolutions, or parts thereof, in
conflict Derewith, rre to tha extent of such conflict only, 'hereby rescinded and
annulled.
