IN APPRECIATION AND COMMENDATION OF BERNARD E. JOST,
RETIRING AUDITOR, EX-OFFICIO ASSESSOR, OF THE CITY
OF ALAMEDA.
TUE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA records with admiration and great esteem
the long period of forty-two years of service faithfully rendered by Mr. BERNARD E.
JOST as an employee and official of the City.
WHEREAS, Mr. Jest began his municipal career with the City of Alameda in
1918, when he was appointed Deputy Treasurer, ex-officio Tax Collectcr, and then in
1920, he was appointed Deputy Auditor in which position he served until November 15,
1949. At that time, he was appointed by the City Council to the office of Auditor,
ex-officio Assessor, to fill the vacancy created by the death of Mr. F. J. Croll; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Jost was first elected to the office of Auditor, ex-officio
Assessor, at the General Municipal Election held March 13, 1951, for the unexpired
term and was subsequently re-elected to said office in the succeeding Municipal Elec-
tions of 1953 and 1957 for full terms.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Alameda is
cognizant of the excellent record established by Mr. Jost in the field of property
assessment es pointed up by the fact that none of his assessments was reduced by any
City Council sitting as a Board of Equalization. His sense of integrity, equity and
responsibility in performing the duties of his several offices has been of outstanding
credit to the City in its financial proceedings; and
SE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Alameda is grateful
for the fine spirit of friendliness and cooperation exemplified by Mr. Jost in his
business and employee associations; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Alameda and his City
Hall friends extend to "Benny", es he is affectionately known, their felicitations
on his enviable record of achievement and tenure of office and their best wishes for
good health and much happiness during his retirement.

I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly
and regularly introduced and adopted by the Council of the City of Alameda in regu-
lar meeting assembled on the 5th day of April, 1960, by the following vote, to wit:
AYES: Councilmen Colliachonn, Freeman, Petersen, Schacht and
President McCall, (5).
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
