W1TE PROF.OnD SORROW, the Council. of the City of Alameda records the death of one of its
loyal employees, 20SDPH E. BFRIDAND, Cartain of the Alameda Police Department.
WHDREAS, Captain Bertrand had been employed by the .City of Alamoda on February 1, 1937,
as a Patrolman in the Police Department and, by the excellent performance of hls many duties through
the years, had earned promotion through the ranks to the position of Captain in 1957, ,2h.i.ch post
he hald at the time of h2F, sudden death on February 21, 1962; and
WDEREAS, Captain Bartrand's knowledge and experience anA the high standards he Mod main-
tained had been inestimable in the functions of the Department and his abilitles in the field of law
enforcement had been recognized thro,...1g11t ,Dna Bay Aran; and
DHEREAS, Cantain Bertrand's prolicieney in his Dnrk, his attitude of cooperation and
tolerance and his sportsmanship had engendered the great esteem anA affection of.. his. colleagues aad

OW, TDEREFORE, BE RESOLVED that, In recoRnitIon of the twenty-five yeRrs of out-
standing service to the City by Cnptain Bertrand and his ready acceptance of responsibility in
many phases of community life, the Council of the City of Xlameds. does hereby express its sense of
personal loss and its gratitude for the. fine character and capabiliLies exemplified by Captain.
Hertrand during his public employ.
