CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 6569
ENDORSING POSITION OF ALAMEDA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AS EXPRESSED
IN ITS RESOLUTION NO, 6402 AND RELATING TO HUNTERS POINT NAVAL
SHIPYARD FACILITY.
WHEREAS, on February 24, 1964, the Chamber of Commerce of the City of Alameda, California,
passed its Resolution No. 6402, which states:

WHEREAS, the Alameda Chamber of Commerce has, for many years, consistently endorsed all
programs designed to maintain reasonable workloads for private shipyards in the San Francisco
Bay Area and;
WHEREAS, it has come to the attention of the Board of Directors of the Alameda Chamber
of Commerce that there is a probability that the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard may be shut
down by the United States Department of Defense, thereby releasing to the private shipyards
the workload presently handled at the Naval facility and;
WHEREAS, the private shipyards in the San Francisco Bay Area have the necessary capacity
in shops, tools and technical knowledge and, for the most part, dry docks necessary to perform
this work and;
WHEREAS, it is noted that the only shortcoming is that a few of the larger carriers and
larger cruisers require dry dock capacity beyond that which the private yards have available
and;
WHEREAS, it is the unanimous opinion of this Board that the large graving docks at the
Hunters Point facility can he converted from a Federal expense to as income producing
facility by permitting the usage thereof to private qualified integrated shipyard operators;
IT IS NOW THEREFORE RESOLVED that the Board of Directors of the Alameda Chamber of Commerce
recommends that when the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard facility is shut down, the large graving
docks be kept available for use by the qualified private integrated shipyard operators for dry
docking the larger cruisers and larger carriers.

WHEREAS, said Chamber of Commerce presented said Resolution to this Council on March 3,
1964, with the request that favorable Council action thereon be expressed by a formal resolution;
and
WHEREAS, it is recognized that the maintenance of private shipyard facilities and work-
load is of vital interest to the San Francisco Bay Area;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA that the herein-
above quoted Resolution 6402 of the Chamber of Commerce of Alameda, California, be, and the same
hereby is endorsed.
