AUTHORIZING MAYOR AND CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE AGREEMENT WITH
CERTAIN OTHER PUBLIC LIBRARIES, RELATING TO PARTICIPATION BY
CITY UNDER STATE PUBLIC LIBRARY.
WHEREAS, pursuant co Resolution No. 6549 adopted January 7, 1964, the Alameda Free Library
was authorized to participate with other public libraries in the area In applying for a joint plan-
ning grant from the State. of California, to be administered by the City of 3erkeley Public Library
in accordance with the Public Library Development Act (Ch. 1.5, Div, 20, Education Code of
California; and
WHEREAS, it is now proposed a contract between such libraries, including those of the
cities of Alameda, Berkeley, Oakland, Livermore, Richmond, and the counties of Alameda and Contra
Costa, be entered into in order to participate in said grant and in order to provide for the parti-
cipation by the parties in preparation of the plan for development of a cooperative library system
under said Act and to administer the agreement for planning grant as provided in the "Agreement for
Planning Grant," attached as Exhibit "A" to said proposed contract; and
WHEREAS, it will be in the Clty's interest to enter into the proposed contract;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OE THE CITY OF ALAMEDA that the Mayor and
City Manager are hereby authorized to execute said joint agreement, on behalf of the City, with the
public libraries of the cities of Alameda, Berkeley, Oakland, Livermore, Richmond, and the counties
of Alameda and Contra Costa, relating to the said library system development plan and administration
thereof, under said provisions of the Education Code of the State or California, and the City Clerk
is directed to attest same; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of said agreement and its attachment shall be on file
in the office of the City Clerk,

introduced and adopted by the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the
17th day of March, l964, by the following vote, to wit:
AYES: Councilmen Freeman, La Croix, Jr., Rose and Vice President McCall, (4).
NOES: None.
ABSENT: President Godfrey, (1).
