RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA IN APPRECIATION
AND COMMENDATION OF WILLIAM L. HILBISH, RETIRED FIRE CHIEF OF
THE CITY OF ALAMEDA.
THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA proudly recognizes the long period of loyal service
rendered by WILLIAM L. HILBISH, as a Fire Fighter and as Chief of the Alameda Fire. Department, who
retired as of May 1, 1964.
WHEREAS, Chief Hilbish was appointed as a Fireman of the City of Alameda on October 1,
1936, and through his competent performance of duties, earned his advancement through the ranks by
appointment as Fire Lieutenant on February 13, 1942, Assistant Fire Chief en July I, 1945, and
Chief of the Alameda Fire Department on July 1, 1958; and
WHEREAS, Chief Hlibish, through his knowledge and experience, realized the importance and
necessity of having proper and effective equipment and well-trained Fire Fighters, did his utmost
to establish these conditions in order to more fully protect the citizenry against the fearful
hazards of fire; and
WHEREAS, Chief illIbish, being ever mindful of the need for fire-safety education to
eliminate dangerous practices and carelessness, did promote and stress certain Fire Prevention Pro-
grams which were most informative and beneficial and earned honorary awards for the City; and
WHEREAS, Chief Hilbish was highly respected by his associates for his capabilities as
Fire Chief - for his participation. in many worthwhile civic projects and for his representation of
the City as a member of the International Association of Fire Chiefs,
NOW, 111EREFORE, 3E IT RESOLVED that, in acknowledgement of the excellent leadership given
by Chief Hilbish during his tenure of office and the esteem and amicable relations engendered by
him among his fellow workers, the Council of the City of Alameda does hereby express its apprecia-
tion for his conscientious service on behalf of the people of the community; and
85 IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Alameda extends its congratula-
tions upon his fine record and its best wishes for good health and happiness during his retirement.
