Resolution 06619CITY OF ALAMEDA REsoLurioN NO. 6619 DECLARING OPPOSITION OF CITY OF ALAMEDA TO ANY SOUTHERN BAY CROSSING HAVING TERMINUS OR ACCESSES THERETO WIT IN SAID CITS. WHEREAS, this Council has carefully considered and reviewed the proposed plan of the State of California, acting by and through the California Toll Bridge Authority and other State agencies, to construct a bridge, commonly referred to as the Southern Bay Crossing, or the Southern Crossing, which contemplates having eastern termini and/or highway approaches and accesses thereto located in or within the boundaries of the City of Alameda, all as more particularly set forth in Section 30554 at seq., Street and Highways Code of California; and WHEREAS, the City of Alameda, through its officers and employees, has had discussions and communications with certain State officers and employees regarding said plan, and in which the City expressed its concern that such contemplated structures would cause great permanent and irreparable harm to the City and its inhabitants for the reasons that, among others, said Crossing, its termini, approaches and accesses (1) will create an overloading of vehicles and people in a geographically small area, (2) will interfere with established traffic flow, and (3) will be aesthetically objection- able and unacceptable to the people of this City; and WHEREAS, upon due study and examination of suggested alternative locations of said Crossing and its said appurtenances, this Council concludes, only that alternative would he acceprable to the people cf the City of Alameda which provides for eastern terminus, highway approaches and accesses thereto, at a location considerably south of that now proposed, and at a location in which no part of said Crossing nr its appurtenances will be within the boundaries of the City of Alameda; NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA that this Council declares and expresses its great concern over, and its strenuous oppositlon to, any Southern Bay Crossing by which it is proposed to have an eastern terminus, or highway approaches and accesses thereto, within the City of Alameda, or any such structures which will include a freeway or highway crossing or connection in said City; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Legislature, the California Toll Bridge Authority, and all other appropriate agencies are hereby urged to recognize the wishes of the citizens of the City of Alameda, as expressed in this Resolutioft. in connection with said proposed Southern Bay Crossing. * * * * * * * * * I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolutior, was duly and regularly introduced and adopted by the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 19th day of May, 1964, by the following vote, to wit: AYES: Councilmen La Croix, Jr., Rose and President Godfrey, (3).
