DECTABINR POLICY IN FAVOR OF OPEN HOBSINO AND UHMING SUPPORT
THEREOF BY GENERAL PUBLIC.
Section 1. The City Council of the Cit..y of Alameda reaffirms its support of all legis-
lative attempts to eliminate discrimination in housing accommodatimms based or race, cater,
religion, national. origin or ancestry. Any suoh discrimination in violation of law, or its intent,
is contrary to national and state policy, to which policy this City Council fully subscribes.
Section 2.
1 concept of "open housing' implies that no person offering housing accomo-
dations for sale or rent will refuse to sell, rent, lease or otherwise deny to or withhold from any
person such accommodations because of race, color, religion, national origin or ancestry, when. such_
person meets the standards which the owner or lessor in fact requires of all prospective buyers or
tenants.
Sectiy.in 3. The City Council hereby calln upon all citizens of Alameda to support actively,
in spirit and En fact, the poNNAy An favor of open housing in this resolution set forth. The City
Council urges all property owners and all persons whose business it is to furnish housing accornoda-
tions, whether by sale or rental, to implement this policya and thersby contribute to the elimination
of such discriminatimn. as may exist, whether ouen or subtle.
Section_ 4. Statutes against discrimihaticn, both federal and state, are controlling upon
municipalities and preclude local regulation in thiS field. Persons aggrieved by violations of those
laws are encouraged to avail themselves of the administrative machinery provided by such laws, with
the knowledze that the City of Alameda fully supports the lap- and the goal it is intended to achieve-
