Resolution 0767779 CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO, 7677 URGING SUPPORT OF EAST BAY MUNICIPAL UTILITY DISTRICT WATER CONTROL PROJECT BOND ISSUE (PROPOSITION "B" ON NOVEMBER 3, 19)0 BALLOT) WHEREAS, Proposition "B" on the November 3, 1970 general election ballot asks the citizens of Alameda and several other East Bay communities to authorize the issuance of $60 million in sewage treatment facilities by Special District No. 1 of the East Bay Municipal Utility District; WHEREAS, these new facilities are vitally necessary in order to meet new and higher standards for Bay water quality laid down by the Federal government and the Bay Area Regional Water Quality Control Board; and WHEREAS, the Regional Board has placed EBMUD on a "maximum accelerated schedule'' under which these new facilities are to be built and in operation by the end of 1973; and WHEREAS, failure to adhere to the schedule could result in the imposition of fines of up to $6,000 a day by the Regional Board, plus the banning of all new sewage connections in the East Bay, effectively halting all new construction with consequent serious adverse effects on employment and the economy of the area; and WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the City of Alameda environmentally, esthetically, culturally and economically that this major Bay water quality improvement project be undertaken as soon as possible; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by this Council that the citizens of Alameda be urged to support EBMUD's water pollution control project by voting "Yes" on Proposition "B" on the November 3 ballot; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the Board of Directors of the East Bay Municipal Utility District and to Mr. J.
