CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 7691
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA IN APPRECIATION
AND COMMENDATION OF THE HONORABLE LELAND W. SWEENEY FOR HIS
SERVICE TO THE CITY OF ALAMEDA
LET IT BE KNOWN that The Honorable LELAND W. SWEENEY, a native Alamedan, has long been one of
the City's most civic-minded and outstanding citizens, who has earned the admiration, respect and sincere
friendship of many by his forthright attitude, integrity, leadership and his amicable personality.
WHEREAS, The Honorable Mr. Sweeney was first elected to the City Council in March, 1945, and
was re-elected at the succeeding two General Municipal Elections; and
WHEREAS, Councilman Sweeney was selected in 1951 to act as Vice Mayor of the City and as Mayor
and President of the City Council in April, 1953, in which capacity he was serving at the time he sub-
mitted his resignation to assume office as a member of the Board of Supervisors of the County of Alameda;
and
WHEREAS, Councilman Sweeney demonstrated his dedication and competence in the full assumption
of his responsibilities as an official of the City and, as Supervisor of the Third District of the County,
was instrumental in the adoption of the Mayors Formula for the equitable distribution of gas tax funds
to the cities of Alameda County, and actively fostered and supported many other programs for the benefit
of the City and its people.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Alameda, being aware of the
valuable contributions of this devoted public official to the interests of the community, does hereby
convey its genuine esteem and gratitude for his endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Alameda and his many friends throughout
the City extend to Supervisor Sweeney sincere congratulations upon his retirement and felicitations for
his good health and future happiness.
