CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 7904
RESOLUTION OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA IN APPRECIATION
AND COMMENDATION OF DR. DONALD M. RODERICK, RETIRED SUPERINTENDENT
OF SCHOOLS
WHEREAS, DONALD M. RODERICK commenced his employment with the Alameda Unified School
District in September, 1939, as Vice Principal of Porter School and thereafter served in various
capacities in the District, discharging his duties capably and conscientiously until, in September,
1946, he was appointed Assistant Superintendent of Schools, having in that year also been awarded
his Doctorate in Education from Stanford University; and
WHEREAS, in 1952, Dr. Roderick was appointed Superintendent of Schools of the City of
Alameda, in which capacity he competently served until he was forced by ill health to retire in
June, 1971; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Roderick engendered great admiration and esteem by his able direction of the
District, which at all times reflected his concern that the hichest standards of education be applied
in the conduct of the City's schools, and by his unfailing spirit of cooperation in contacts with the
governmental officials and offices of the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Alameda hereby commends
Dr. Roderick for his effective leadership and the devoted service rendered to the community in the
interest of its citizens, young and old, and expresses its wholehearted appreciation for the integrity,
loyalty and amiable personality of this fine man.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Alameda hereby extends to Dr.
DONALD M. RODERICK sincere felicitations upon his retirement and best wishes for good health and much
happiness in the future.
