Resolution 08029497 CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 9029 AUTHORIZING MAYOR TO ADVISE STATE SENATORS HOLMDAHL AND PETRIS OF CITY'S POSITION RESPECTING USE OF OAKLAND AIRPORT RUNWAY 27 FOR JET AIRCRAFT OPERATIONS BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA that the Mayor is hereby requested and authorized to direct the following communication to the Hon. Robert Crown, Assemblyman, 14th District: "Dear Mr. Crown: We understand that a resolution by Senator John S. Holmdahl, co-authored by you and Senator Nicholas Petris, urging that military planes be restricted to over-water routes in their approach to and departure from Alameda Naval Air Station is to be introduced in the State Legislature on Tuesday, February 20, 1973. While we support such a resolution, we point out also, that a long-standing concern of the City of Alameda has been the operation of jet aircraft, including small private jets and full-sized commercial aircraft, off the Port of Oakland north field (runways 27-L and 27-R), Such operations cause low-flying jet aircraft to pass directly over approximately 4,000 residents of the City of Alameda, We feel that this situation possesses at least equal, if not greater threat to the health, welfare and safety of the citizens of Alameda than operations at the Naval Air Station. Jet operations off 27-L and 27-R which were not intended for jet use are, we feel, unnecessary in light of the existence of runway 29 which has over-water approach and departure paths and which was designed and built exnressly for jet aircraft. We therefore request and urge that the above-mentioned resolution be specifically inclusive of all jet aircraft, military and civilian, and/or that a resolution be forwarded to the Port of Oakland Board of Port Commissioners requesting that jet operations off the north field runways (27-L and 27-R) be completely discontinued. Respectfully, Terry Y. Le Croix, Mayor of the City of Alameda, California' * * * * * * * * * I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted by the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 20th day of February, 1973, by the following vote, to wit: AYES: Councilmen Fore, Levy, Longaker, McCall and President La Croix, Jr., (5).
