ADOPTING AND PROCLAIMING A POLICY AND PROGRAM OF AFFIRMATIVE
ACTION AND EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY
WHEREAS, the Congress of the United States and the Legislature of the State of California
have enacted laws to safeguard rights guaranteed under the Constitution to prohibit discrimination
against persons on the basis of race, color, sex, or national origin, or religious belief; and
WHEREAS, in order to fully safeguard these rights and to implement the policy behind such
laws and statutes, positive programs must be instituted in the administration of employment practices
of the City of Alameda; and
WHEREAS, it is the policy of the City of Alameda to seek qualified employees for every
job and to provide equal opportunity for employment and advancement with the City;
NOW THEREFORE, 3E IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA that said Council
hereby adopts a policy of Affirmative Action and Fqual Employment Opportunity in the administration
of its employment program, and authorizes and directs the City Manager to carry out such policy.
