CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 8483
REQUESTING INTRODUCTION OF ASSEMBLY BILL BANNING CERTAIN AIRCRAFT
FROM OAKLAND INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT RUNWAY 27-9
WHEREAS, the Port of Oakland operates the Oakland International Airport; and
WHEREAS, said airport has permitted the take off of airplanes on runway 27-9 that are
hazardous to existing residents on Bay Farm Island in the City of Alameda; and
WHEREAS, these same airplanes could use runway 11-29 without any hazard and without
creating appreciable noise for existing residents; and
WHEREAS, the City has repeatedly requested the Port to require use of the better runway
for the type of aircraft which causes noise and concern to the existing residents without
success;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA request
Assemblyman John J. Miller to introduce a bill banning all jet aircraft, turbo prop aircraft
and reciprocating engine aircraft with certified gross weight in excess of 12,500 pounds and
four engine reciprocating engine aircraft from runway 27-9 of the Oakland International Airport
for take off or landing other than emergency landing,
