Resolution 08509CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 8509 OPPOSING SENATE BILL 1550, REVISING THE PRESENT SYSTEM OF CALCULATING PENALTY ASSESSMENTS AS ADDITIVES TO FINES AND FORFEITURES WHEREAS, SB 1550 has been introduced in the California Legislature; and WHEREAS, SB 1550 proposes to revise the present system of calculating penalty assess- ments as additives to fines and forfeitures by providing for a deduction of five dollars ($5,09) for every twenty-five dollars (S25,00), or fraction thereof, from every fine, penalty, and forfeiture; and WHEREAS, said revision would result in a potential loss of revenue needed fo' law enforcement purposes; and WHEREAS, although the time to reevaluate the method of allocating fine and forfeiture revenues may be present, such reevaluation should be done in a comprehensive manner after a careful cost-benefit study; and WHEREAS, SB 1550 proposes reevaluation above referred to on an ad hoc basis and not in a comprehensive manner after a careful cost-benefit study and the result of the passage of SB 1550 would be loss of revenue needed by cities for local law enforcement purposes.
