Resolution 08603CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO, 8603
SUPPORTING TRANSPORTATION STUDY OF THE SAN LEANDRO BAY AREA
WHEREAS, the Southern Transportation Corridor will potentially create negative
environmental impacts on the communities of Alameda, Oakland and San Leandro; and
WHEREAS, said Corridor will function as an alternate to Route 61 Freeway until
it is eventually constructed; and
WHEREAS, potentially significant traffic problems will occur in the next ten years
resulting from future residential development, growth of the Oakland International Airport,
construction of the South County Transportation Corridor, major industrial growth, etc.; and
WHEREAS, substantial environmental impacts, heretofore unmeasured, will affect the
present residential neighborhoods of Alameda, Oakland andSan Leandro; and
WHEREAS, a bridge across the San Leandro Bay has been deleted from the Route 61
Freeway Plan by recent legislation; and
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) has been requested by East
Bay legislators to conduct a thorough examination of the San Leandro Bay transportation future,
which would weigh the social and environmental impacts in relation to present residential
neighborhoods in Alameda, Oakland and San Leandro.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Alameda concurs
with the intent and purpose of the requested study by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission
and urges other affected public agencies and legislators to join in requesting the transporta-
tion study; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council also urges joint planning amorg the
affected public agencies for the development of San Leandro Bay Park and access thereto.
