REQUESTING DELETION OF PORTION OF ROUTE 61 AS RECOMMENDED BY
THE ALAMEDA COUNTY TRANSPORTATION ADVISORY COMMITTEE
WHEREAS, the Alameda County Transportation Advisory Committee has included in its
recommendations to the State Highway Commission the widening of Route 61 from Bay Farm Island
Bridge in Alameda to Hegenberger Road in Oakland; and
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda is a community desirous of retaining its residential atmcs-
phere; and
WHEREAS, East Bay Legislators have requested the Metropolitan Transportation Commission
(MTC) to conduct a thorough study and analysis of transportation needs in the San Leandro Bay area
with consideration given to social and environmental impacts in relation to existing residential
neighborhoods in Alameda, Oakland and San Leandro; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Alameda has by Resolution No. 8603 concurred with
the intent and purpose of the requested MTC study; and
WHEREAS, by said Resolution No. 8603 the City Council also urged joint planning among the
affected public agencies for the development of San Leandro Bay Park and access thereto.
MOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Alameda County Transportation Advisory Committee
is requested to delete from its future recommendations that portion of Route 61 between Island Drive
and City Line Road on Doolittle Drive as now recommended in Group A, Section II, project number 11,
of the Committee's recommendation for projects for inclusion in the 1977-78 State Highway Budget.
RE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that since the City's resolution No, 8603 has recommended joint
planning among affected agencies, it is requested that no substantive action be taken on the Route 61
project until such time as joint planning has provided feasible alternatives to routing facilities
through the residential neighborhoods of Alameda, Gland and San Leandro.
