CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 8617
REQUESTING STATE HIGHWAY COMMISSION TO POSTPONE ACTION ON ROUTE
61 UNTIL SPECIFICALLY REQUESTED TO PROCEED BY THE CITY OF ALAMEDA
WHEREAS, the Alameda County Transportation Advisory Committee has included in its
recommendations to the State Highway Commission the widening of Route 61 from Bay Farm Island
Bridge in Alameda tc Hegenberger Road in Oakland; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has by Resolution No. 9616 requested that the Alameda County
Transportation Advisory Committee delete from its future recommendations to the State Highway
Commission that portion of Route 61 between Island Drive and City Line Road on Doolittle Drive
as recommended in Group A, Section II, project number 11, of the Committee's recommendations of
projects for inclusion 1n the 1977-78 State Highway Budget.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Alameda requests
the State Highway Commission to postpone any action and/or consideration of widening the section
of roadway on Doolittle Drive between Island Drive and City Line Road at the Alameda-Oakland
border until such time as the City of Alameda, within whose jurisdiction this section of Route 61
is situated, shall specifically request such consideration and improvement.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that since the City's Resolution No. 8603 has recommended joint
planning among affected agencies, it is requested that no substantive action be taken on the
Route 61 construction proposal until such time as joint planning has provided feasible alternatives
to routing facilities through the residential neighborhoods of Alameda, Oakland and San Leandro,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that copies of this resolution be transmitted to the California
State Advisory Highway Commbsion, the Alameda County Transportation Advisory Committee, the
Metropolitan Transportation Commission, East Bay Legislators, and other affected agencies.
