CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO, 8655
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA, CALIFORNIA, IN COMMENDATION
AND SUPPORT OF THE UNITED STATES CORPS OF ENGINEERS IN THE
SHORELINE EROSION CONTROL DEMONSTRATION PROGRAM
WHEREAS, there is an immediate and dire need for relatively inexpensive shoreline erosion
control methods and devices; and
WHEREAS, the Chief of the Corps of Engineers has recognized that need and has initiated a
program for innovation and improvisation of devices and methods to be demonstrated; and
WHEREAS, THE Chief of the Corps of Engineers and the Congress of the United States have
established time schedules which requiring the making of investigations, decisions and demonstrations
with expedition; and
WHEREAS, the Alameda South Shore Beach is in immediate need of erosion mitigation,
prevention and correction; and
WHEREAS, although studies for a permanent correction and beach reestablishment have been and
are in progress, much time will elapse before accomplishment.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA that:
1. The Corps of Engineers and the Congress of the United States are commended for their
foresight and motivation in determining and developing devices and methods to be tested as to their
adequacy for inexpensive but effective mears to reduce or prevent shoreline erosion;
2. The City of Alameda lends its support to the project and especially es it relates to
the Alameda Beach, recognizing that twenty-five percent (258) of the total cost of the demonstration
will be borne by local resources.
3. Copies of this resolution be forwarded to Colonel H. A. Flertzheim, District
Engineer, San Francisco District of the United States Corps of Engineers and to Congressman Fortney
H. (Pete) Stark, 9th Congressional District representative in the House of Representatives.
