Resolution 09037CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 9037 REQUESTING THE ALLOCATION OF ONE CENT OF THE EXISTING STATE SALES TAX TO CITIES AND COUNTIES WHEREAS, the passage of Proposition 13 has reduced City and County statewide revenue collected from the property tax and said loss in property tax revenue has caused a cut in local services and additional economic side effects, and WHEREAS, the revenue structure of the State of California has produced a General Fund surplus of which the State four and three - fourths cents share of the six; cents statewide sales and use tax makes up the major portion; and WHEREAS, the six cents state sales tax is - imposed on the people throughout California and collected locally with four and three - fourths cents used for State general fund expenditures, one - fourth cent to fund transportation in each county, with the remaining one cent being returned to cities and counties statewide on a point of origin basis; and WHEREAS, the four and three - fourths cents sales and use tax is projected to continue its annual growth; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA that said City supports legislation returning one cent of the State's four and three - fourths cents sales tax to California es and counties to be distributed by the State on a per capita basis with no strings attached; BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that continuation of the existing distribution of the one cent sales tax on the basis of point of origin be reaffirmed. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be ded to state legislators representing the City of Alameda 1 as to the League of California Cities. I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted by the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 16th day of January, 1979, by the following vote, to wit: AYES: NOES: Councilmen 8eCka0, Diam2Dt, Sherratt, Tillman, and President Corica, (5).
