Resolution 09159CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 9159 COMMENDING THE ALAMEDA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT ON THE SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION AND OPENING OF AMELIA EARRART SCHOOL WHEREAS, the residents of Bay Farm Island have been requesting a neighborhood school for more than forty years; and WHEREAS, the Alameda Unified School District Master Planning Committee of 1972 recommended building a school on Bay Farm Island as soon as possible; and WHEREAS, through the State Legislature funds were earmarked for an Alameda School; and WHEREAS, the population on Bay Fa increasing over the past fifty years and years away; and sland has been rapidly al build-out is still WHEREAS, the State Legislature approved construction of the school in April, 1974, with actual construction starting in April, 1978, and the dedication to take place on October 6, 1979; and WHEREAS, the new Amelia Earhart School cost. over Two Million Dollars to build and will serve five hundred and fifty grades K-5 students on an eight-acre site NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA that the Alameda Unified School District is to be commended on the successful completion and opening of Alameda's newest school, the Amelia Earhart School. I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly introduced and adopted by the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 2nd day of October, 1979, by the following vote, to wit: AYES: Councilmen Diament, Sherratt, Stone, Tillman, and President Corica, (5).
