AUTHORIZING CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT GRANT APPLICATION
TO U.S. DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION UNDER THE
PROVISIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION
APPROPRIATIONS ACT FOR 1981 FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF A
TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda supports the development
rgy- efficient modes of transportation as part of a'complehen-
ive energy conservation program, and
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda has committed funds to construct
and maintain an extensive bicycle path system in furtherance of
this goal; and
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda supports community effor
mprove transportation system efficiency by promoting al.terna
Ives to the automobile and by increasing vehicle occupancy; and
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda °s General Plan, including -the
Circulation, Energy and Conservation Elements, furthermore provides
for the development of facilities, capital projects and activi-
ties to improve transportation system efficiency; and
REAS, the u.S. Department of Transportation under the
provisions of the Department of Transportation Appropriations
Act for 1981, has authority to award funds for Transportation
Systems Management Programs, and
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda possess
to apply for and implement a T.ransportat
Program; and
WHEREAS, it is concluded to be in the best interests of
the City of Alameda to conduct a Transportation Systems Manage-
ment Program,
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY
0 AhAMEDA as follows:
1. That the City Manager will submit a- letter of
interest to the U.S. Department of Transportation;
and
2. That the City Manager be and hereby is authorized
to execute on behalf of the City of Alameda any and
all application forms and other necessary documents.
