Resolution 09534CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO, 9534 EXPRESSING SUPPORT FOR SENATE BILL 215 WHICH WILL PROVIDE NEW FUNDING FOR STATE HIGHWAYS, LOCAL STREETS AND ROADS AND TRANSIT WHEREAS, Gas Tax money to finance highway, street and road maintenance and improvements has not been increased since 1963; and WHEREAS, there is an increasing - shortage of money ear- marked for highways, local streets and road's; and WIIERFAS,corstruction costs have increased substantially in recent years and have far outpaced revenues; and WHEREAS, fuel consumption has dropped significantly with a corresponding loss of revenue; and WHEREAS, federal funds for transit operations will most Likely be reduced dramatically; and WHEREAS, Senate Bill 215, introduced by Senator John Foran, Chair of the Senate Committee on Transportation, proposes to increase the amount of Gas Tax money that would be returned to the cities for street maintenance and improvements; and WHEREAS, there is an overriding need for additional funds t.o finance necessary street maintenance', and improvements, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA that said Council goes on record as support_zag the adoption by the Legislature of Senate Bill 215.
