COMMENDING CHUCK CORICA FOR HIS YEARS OF SERVICE
TO THE CITY OF ALAMEDA AS COUNCILMEMBER AND MAYOR
TO ALL LET IT BE KNOWN that CHUCK CORICA, long time activist
in civic affairs and recently recognized as Alameda's 1983
CITIZEN OF THE YEAR, has earned the respect and admiration of
this community for his dedication, determination and inspiration;
and
WHEREAS, CHUCK CORICA was first elected to the Alameda City
Council on April 17, 1973, serving as Vice-Mayor from 1973
through 1975, was elected Mayor on April 15, 1975, and re-elected
Mayor in 1979; and
WHEREAS, during those 10 years of dedicated service to the
community, CHUCK CORICA faithfully carried out the duties and
responsibilities of his office most conscientiously and
sincerely; and
WHEREAS, as Mayor he exhibited special sensitivity to the
wide variety of problems which face any community, as exemplified
by his appointment of the Mayor's Committee for the Handicapped,
Senior Discount Committee, the Rent Review Advisory Committee,
and others; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure as Mayor the City made enormous
progress despite financial constraints, mainly due to his unre-
lenting spirit and political leadership; and
WHEREAS, his considerable energy, motivation and concern
were always directed at perfecting the quality of life that we
all live in.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City
of Alameda, fully aware of Mayor Corica's devotion and dedication
to this City and the many personal sacrifices he made in serving
full-time as Mayor, does hereby congratulate him on his years of
service and extends its genuine esteem and gratitude for his many
endeavors on our behalf.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of
Alameda, City Staff, and his friends and admirers throughout the
community and Bay Area, extend to Chuck their congratulations
and best wishes for continued good health, success and happiness.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution
was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the
City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 17th of May, 1983,
by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Gorman, Hanna, Lucas and President Diament - 4.
NOES: None.
ABSENT:None.
