RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA
RECOGNIZING THE SELECTION OF THE CITY OF ARITA-MACHI AS
ALAMEDA'S SISTER-CITY
WHEREAS, a "People-to-People" Program was inaugurated in
1956 to establish greater friendship and understanding between
the peoples of the United States and other nations through the
medium of direct personal contact; and
WHEREAS, the people of the City of Alameda and its officials
have enthusiastically endorsed the concept of forming friendship
relations and affiliations with a foreign City with common con-
cerns and mutual interests; and
WHEREAS, the City of Arita-Machi has selected the City of
Alameda as its Sister-City affiliate; and
WHEREAS, officials in both cities have indicated a sincere
willingness to engage in programs which will be beneficial to
their peoples, particularly in the development of cultural and
social ties and in the development of an exchange program between
the two cities; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Alameda does recog-
nize and endorse said selection with the hope that it will lead
to a lasting friendship between the peoples of Alameda and Arita-
Machi:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE City of
Alameda on behalf of the people of Alameda that the City enter
into a Sister-City affiliation with the government and people of
Arita-Machi, Japan for the purpose of creating goodwill and under-
standing between the peoples of our cities and our two great
nations.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a fully executed and suitably
inscribed copy of this resolution be framed and presented to the
Mayor of Arita-Machi, and sent to the United States Information
Agency and the United States Department of State.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution
was duly ar.1 regularly adopted and passed by Council of the
City of Alameda in special meeting assembled ' on the 8th of March, 1984
by the following vote to wit:
AYES: COUncilm BDb2rs Gorman, Lucas, Monsef and President Diament - 4.
NOES: N0ne,
ABSENT: Councilmember Hanna.
