Resolution 10583CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO, 0583 SUPPORTING ENACTMENT OF SENATE BILL 290 TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL FUNDING FOR REPAIRS AND CONSTRUCTION OF LOCAL STREETS AND ROADS WHEREAS, there is a recognized transportation funding crisis in the State of California and legislative action is urgently needed to meet this problem; and WHEREAS, transportation services are vital to the economic well -being of the State and its constituent counties and cities and are essential for daily activities of all the people; and, WHEREAS, the financing of transportation services through user charges has traditionally served the State well and should be continued; and WHEREAS, revenues from the State Motor Vehicle Fuel Tax have not kept pace with inflation; and WHEREAS, truck weight fees have not been adjusted corres- pondingly to meet the increased maintenance caused by heavier vehicles upon streets and highways; and WHEREAS, mass transit systems funding; and are also in need of increased WHEREAS, legislation in the form of Senate Bill 290 and Senate Constitutional Amendment 12 has been introduced which provides potential remedies for the above conditions; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ALAMEDA that the City Council supports the reasonable increases of varied revenues, such as gas tax, truck weight fees, and sales tax revenues, which Senate Bill 290 embodies and which it allocates not only to local governments for their transportation programs but also to the State transportation program; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Alameda supports the concept of Senate Constitutional Amendment 12 as providing a means for local government to raise additional funds for transportation when so needed. I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and - regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 2nd of April, 1985, by the following vote to wit: AYES: Councilmembers Gorman, Hanna, Monsef and President Diament - 4.
