Resolution 10735CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 10735 REQUESTING REDESIGN OF THE FRUITVALE AVENUE BART PARKING LOT TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL PARKING SPACES WHEREAS, the Bay Area Rapid Transit District was created in 1957 to provide interurban mass rapid transit which would relieve existing and future traffic congestion on highways in the Bay Area; and WHEREAS, a number of Alamedans rely on the BART system to provide transportation to their points of destination, and WHEREAS, many Alameda residents would like to use the Fruitvale BART Station but have found that the lot is full, with rare exceptions, during daytime hours, and WHEREAS, a professional examination of the existing layout of the Fruitvale BART Station parking lot determined that a significant increase in the number of parking spaces could be accomplished through a redesign and a reduction in the amount of space allocated for maneuvering and landscaping, and WHEREAS, modern design techniques applied by traffic engineers specializing in parking lot layouts have found that with the advent and wide use of compact automobiles, less space is required for parking or maneuvering than was required by former standards; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Alameda that the City Council finds it within its sphere of responsibility to bring this matter to the attention of the Bay Area Rapid Transit Board of Directors. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent to the President of the Board of Directors of the Bay Area Rapid Transit District for distribution and consideration of its members. I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 17th of September, 1985, by the following vote to wit: AYES: Councilmembers Corica, Hanna, Lucas, Monsef and President Diament - 5.
