COMMEMORATING THE TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY OF THE
OAKLAND / ALAMEDA COUNTY COLISEUM AND DECLARING
SEPTEMBER 14 -20 GREAT COLISEUM MEMORIES WEEK
WHEREAS, the Oakland /Alameda County Coliseum observes its
20th anniversary on September 18, 1986; and
WHEREAS, that sixty million people, from all social and
economic categories, have attended Coliseum events attests to the
Coliseum's financial and spiritual importance to the region; and
WHEREAS, those sixty million patrons have thrilled to the
Coliseum's great teams, legendary performers and colorful
characters; and
WHEREAS, the Coliseum has provided our citizens with such
indelible memories as "Catfish Hunter's" perfect game, three
straight Oakland A's World Series Championships, weekly Sunday
afternoon miracles from that ancient wonder, George Blanda and
his Oakland Raider teammates, Bill Graham's immense and
spectacular "Day on the Green" concerts, Rick Barry leading the
Warriors to a World Championship and a plentiful array of family
entertainment from the Harlem Globetrotters to the Ringling
Brothers Circus; and
WHEREAS, the Coliseum has been a well managed and
profitable venture throughout its twenty years of operation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Alameda that said Council recognizes and commends the past and
present Board of Directors and management of the Oakland /Alameda
County Coliseum, the great sports franchises for which the
Coliseum is home and the many talented athletes and entertainers
who have performed at the Coliseum over the past twenty years;
and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Alameda declares
the week of September 14 -20 "Great Coliseum Memories Week."
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution
was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the
City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 16th of September, 1986,
by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Corica, Hanna, Lucas, Monsef and President Diament - 5.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the
