SUPPORTING THE DECLARATION OF THE GOVERNOR OF THE
STATE OF CALIFORNIA AND DECLARING THAT THE MONTH
OF APRIL 1987 BE EARTHQUAKE PREPAREDNESS MONTH
IN THE CITY OF ALAMEDA
WHEREAS, the Governor of the State of California has
declared the month of April 1987 to be Earthquake Preparedness
Month; and
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda is subject to the
consequences of earthquakes, as are all cities in the State of
California; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Alameda has,
through its Office of Emergency Services, developed and updated
its Emergency Disaster Plan and provided an organization to
implement its provisions; and
WHEREAS, said Office of Emergency Services in
cooperation with City Staff has held exercises to test such
organization and planning. The American Red Cross, City Schools
and other civic groups, clubs and organizations have cooperated
in such tests or have been provided information and training
relative to the affects of earthquakes; and
WHEREAS, it is the intention of the City Manager as
Director of the Office of Emergency Services to continue and to
improve such programs for the safety of the people of the City of
Alameda, including, but not limited to, distribution of the
City's updated disaster plan, conducting training and testing of
the disaster organization and cooperation with local
organizations and other civic groups;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Alameda that said Council supports the declaration of the
Governor and his Office of Emergency Services, declaring April
to be Earthquake Preparedness Month; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the month of April 1987 is
hereby declared to be Earthquake Preparedness Month in the City
of Alameda; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this
resolution be sent to the State Office of Emergency Services.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing
Resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by
the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting
assembled on the 17th day of March, 1987
by the following vote to‘wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Coricar Hanna, Lucas,
Monsef and President Diament — 5
