Resolution 11135CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 11135
URGING THE GOVERNOR AND LEGISLATORS OF THE STATE
OF CALIFORNIA TO AUTHORIZE ADEQUATE FUNDS TO
SUPPORT CHILD CARE SERVICES
WHEREAS, in the report California 2000 prepared by the
Assembly Office of Research it is reported that "(t)hree types of
programs proved effective in reducing dependency and giving
children the necessary tools for life - pre- school, child care, and
teen parenting services. "; and
WHEREAS, the City's Social Service Hu
has listed additional child care services as
need behind Housing and the Homeless; and
an Relations Board
t second priority of
WHEREAS, an increasing number of single parent households
and the increased number of women in the work force contribute
to the continuing and increasing need for day care facilities;
and
WHEREAS, for many years child development programs have
provided quality day care experiences for children of low income
families; and
WHEREAS, for a number of years insufficient funds have
been provided from the State to expand programs to keep pace with
the increasing need and, in fact, some programs have been closed
being unable to operate within the funding level provided by the
State; and
WHEREAS, in the last two years COLAs for Alameda's
Woodstock Child Development Center have actually been less than
the amount needed to maintain the program resulting in an
encroachment on the Alameda Unified School District's General
Fund dollars.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Mayor and members
of the City Council urge the Governor and Legislators of the
State of California to authorize adequate funds to support this
most necessary service and allow for its expansion to reflect
this very real need.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing
Resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by
the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting
assembled on the 17th day of March, 1987
by the following vote to wit:

Monsef and President Diament - 5
