Resolution 11139CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 11139 SUPPORT IN PRINCIPLE THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A SERVICE AUTHORITY FOR FREEWAY EMERGENCIES WHEREAS, Section 2550 of the California Streets and Highways Code provides for the establishment of a Service Authority for Freeway Emergencies (SAFE) if the Board of the Supervisors of the County and a majority of the cities within the County having a majority of the population adopt a resolution providing for the establishment of the authority; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Alameda agrees 0 that a Freeway Emergency Motorist Aid System may be the ▪ & appropriate mechanism to protect the safety of motorists on the ▪ freeways but, also believes that questions of liability, the telecommunications system to be used, and the possibility of a w! 1. region-wide authority all need further exploration. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the • City of Alameda that it approves in principle the establishment of a Service Authority for Freeway Emergencies and supports the formation of an Ad Hoc Study Committee comprised of the City Managers, Public Works Directors, and other appropriate staff to further study this issue and report back to the County and the respective cities within six months.
