AUTHORIZING EXECUTION OF CONTRACT WITH ABAG FOR IMPLEMENTATION
OF THE HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION PROGRAM
WHEREAS, recently enacted State legislation AB 1809 and AB 1744 mandated
that counties include a household hazardous waste management plan as part of their
regular solid waste management program; and
WHEREAS, Alameda County has been subdivided into six areas for purposes
of implementing a household hazardous waste collection pilot program. The City
of Alameda has been grouped with the cities of Piedmont and Oakland to form Area
2; and
WHEREAS, there will be six one -day household hazardous waste collection
programs throughout the County (one for each area); and
WHEREAS, Alameda's collection day is scheduled for June 13, 1987
between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.; and
WHEREAS, the proposed location for the collection day is the Oakland
Fire Department Training Center, 250 Fallon Street, Oakland; and
WHEREAS, Alameda will be responsible for providing staff and volunteer
personnel for the non - technical activities of the collection program; and
WHEREAS, the technical activities of segregating and packaging the
household hazardous waste will be the responsibility of the contractor (Oakland
Scavenger) and the sub - contractor (Chemical Waste Management, Inc.); and
WHEREAS, ABAG will contribute $10,000 per area to be applied towards
the total cost of the pilot program's implementation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Alameda
that the Mayor and City Clerk, and each hereby is, authorized to execute and
to attest to, respectively, on behalf of the City, that certain contract
referred to above by and between the Association of Bay Area Governments and
Oakland Scavenger Company for operation of a one -day Household Hazardous Waste
Collection Program.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing
Resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by
the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting
assembled on the 19th of May, 1987,
by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmempers Camicia, Monsef, Thomas and
Mayor Corica - 4.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None(Vacant Office).
