DESIGNATING THE BUREAU OF ELECTRICITY SUBSTATION
AT 1828 GRAND STREET AS A CITY OF ALAMEDA HISTORICAL
MONUMENT
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda Historical Advisory
Commission on November 5, 1987, voted to recommend designation of
the Bureau of Electricity Central Substation at 1828 Grand Street
as a City of Alameda Historical Monument; and
WHEREAS, the Public Utilities Board voted on November 2,
1987, to approve the concept of designation; and
WHEREAS, the Public Utilities Board and the staff of the
Bureau of Electricity have indicated an interest in making a
variety of modifications to the substation once it is
decommissioned as an electrical substation; and
WHEREAS, the Historical Advisory Commission concurs with
these possible modifications.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City
of Alameda as follows:
1. The Bureau of Electricity substation complex at 1828
Grand Street is designated as a City of Alameda Historical
Monument.
2. Modifications to the complex, excluding those purely
to the interior of the buildings, shall be reviewed by the
Historical Advisory Commission provided, however, that the
Historical Advisory Commission agrees that the following
modifications are appropriate in general concept:
(a) Removal of the rear addition to the substation
building;
(b) Enclosure of the screened openings and installation
of access doors on the south wall of the substation
building;
(c) Various changes to the interior of the substation
building;
(d) Removal of the battery building;
(e) Remodeling of the interior of the fire alarm
building; and
(f) Paving, as required.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing
Resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by
the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting
assembled on the 1st of December, 1987,
by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Haugner, Monsef, Thomas and
President Corica - 4.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: Councilmember Camicia - 1.
