EXPRESSING APPRECIATION TO CONGRESSMAN FORTNEY "PETE" STARK
WHEREAS, Congressman Fortney "Pete" Stark represents the 9th
Congressional District which includes the City of Alameda; and
WHEREAS, Congressman Stark has diligently and consistently
worked on behalf of the citizens of Alameda to alleviate the
aircraft noise and safety problem emanating from Oakland
International Airport; and
WHEREAS, Congressman Stark moderated a community meeting to
address the airport noise abatement and safety concerns of over
300 local residents; and
WHEREAS, local efforts to solve this problem through Council
resolution and communication with the Port of Oakland have had
limited success; and
WHEREAS, Congressman Stark will be introducing Federal
legislation during the 101st Congress assuring final resolution
of the Oakland International Airport noise and safety problem.
IOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the
City of Alameda extends its sincere appreciation on behalf of the
citizens of Alameda to Congressman Fortney "Pete" Stark for the
assistance provided in attempting to alleviate the Oakland
Airport noise and safety problem.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that said Council will consider
support of any legislation authored by Congressman Stark which
proposes to resolve the aircraft noise and safety issues.
