CONFIRMING THE NEED FOR WATER CONSERVATION
WHEREAS, East Bay Municipal Utility District has declared
a condition of water shortage emergency, with its total storage
now at half of capacity and expected to be less than one-quarter
full at summer's end; and
WHEREAS, 1988 is the second driest year of record and the
second consecutive year of below-normal precipitation; and
WHEREAS, the East Bay Municipal Utility District Board of
Directors is considering various formulas for mandatory
conservation, but does not expect them to be fully effective
before June 1, 1988, and is actively calling upon its customers to
pursue all means of immediate, voluntary water conservation.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the
City of Alameda recognizes that a water shortage emergency exists
in the East Bay, supports East Bay Municipal Utility District's
water conservation efforts, and calls upon the residents of
Alameda to make every immediate effort to reduce their water
consumption.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the said Council urges the
District to explore all options and act expeditiously to increase
the East Bay Municipal Utility District's water supply, thereby
minimizing the economic and other hardships which will be
experienced by all.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing
Resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by
the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting
assembled on the 19th of April, 1988,
by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Camicia, Haugner, Monsef, Thomas
and President Corica - 5.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
