Resolution 11669CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 11669 AUTHORIZATION TO DEVELOP A REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL TO RENOVATE THE 18 GREENS ON THE EARL FRY GOLF COURSE WHEREAS, the greens on the Earl Fry Golf Course currently consist primarily of Poa Anna grass which is highly susceptible to turf diseases, particularly Pythium; and WHEREAS, the latest trend is to construct greens using Seaside Bent grass which is a more hardy species of grass, less susceptible to Pythium, and can tolerate higher levels of salt amenities in irrigation water; and WHEREAS, every summer the golf crews struggle to keep the Pythium fungus under control but a number of greens on the Fry Course were infested this past summer which killed areas of the grass, making it extremely difficult to putt with any degree of accuracy; and WHEREAS, besides Pythium being a problem, over the years the greens have become worn, compacted, and uneven soil settlement has occurred on some of them; and WHEREAS, the best solution for resolving said problems would require removal of the existing turf and top soil to a depth of approximately one foot and tearing out the old irrigation lines, valves and electrical connections, and then recontouring and rebuilding the greens using Seaside Bent grass; and WHEREAS, it has been determined that the best method of undertaking said rebuilding process in relation to costs and minimal disruption of play would be to develop a request for proposal which would incorporate design and build provisions; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Alameda that said Council authorizes the development of a request for proposal to renovate the 18 greens on the Earl Fry Golf Course.
