Resolution 11878CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 11878 LIMITING THE NUMBER OF TAXICAB PERMITS IN THE CITY OF ALAMEDA WHEREAS, on March 1, 1987, the Council of the City of Alameda placed a moratorium on the issuance of any new taxicab permits in the City of Alameda for one year; and WHEREAS, at the end of one year, the Police Department was to evaluate and make a recommendation to the Council on the Taxicab Program; and WHEREAS, at the time of the moratorium there were 14 taxicab companies licensed and permitted to operate a total of 173 taxicabs in Alameda; and WHEREAS, as of August 1, 1989, 12 of these companies, operating a total of 96 taxicabs, were still active within the City; and WHEREAS, limiting the number of taxicab permits to ninety -six (96) would allow for growth in established companies, opportunities for new companies, and is an amount the Police Department Taxicab Program could effectively control. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Alameda that said Council hereby limits the number of taxicab permits in the City of Alameda to ninety -six (96). BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Alameda that this resolution shall become effective on the effective date of the Ordinance amending Chapter 1 of Title VII of the Alameda Municipal Code limiting the number of taxicab permits in the City of Alameda.
