Resolution 12237CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 12237
SUPPORTING AB3800, ENCOURAGING THE GOVERNOR AND
LEGISLATURE TO INCREASE FUNDING FOR TRANSIT SERVICE
WHEREAS, transit service is a critical component of the
transportation system in Alameda County and essential in
maintaining the mobility of Alameda County citizens; and
WHEREAS, transit operating funds have not kept pace with
the needs of existing transit service to say nothing of new or
expanded transit services; and
WHEREAS, many transit operators, including AC Transit, are
forced to consider service cuts; and
WHEREAS, the Alameda County Congestion Management Agency is
developing a long range transportation plan which will likely
call for increased transit service as a means of improving
mobility and air quality; and
WHEREAS, lack of sufficient operating funds have been a
recognized problem by the Metropolitan Transportation Commission
for many years; and
WHEREAS, Assemblyman Bates has introduced AB3800 in the
1992 session of the California legislature which will generate
substantial new transit operating revenues by increasing the
sales tax on gasoline and diesel fuel, if enacted;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City of Alameda
supports AB3800 and encourages the legislature and governor to
enact this bill; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City of Alameda urges each
Alameda County city and the County Board of Supervisors to
support AB3800; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be
sent to Governor Wilson, Assemblyman Bates and each member of the
Alameda County state legislative delegation.
