Resolution 12423CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 12423 SUPPORTING THE RETENTION, MODERNIZATION AND EXPANSION OF THE TRANSBAY TRANSIT TERMINAL WHEREAS, a substantial increase in the use of public transportation is necessary to prevent the continued deterioration of the environment and quality of life in the Bay Area; and WHEREAS, transbay bus service is an important component of the transit services utilized by the residents of Alameda; and WHEREAS, the Transbay Transit Terminal is a critical facility for the effective functioning of transbay bus service as a regional public transit hub, linking all parts of the Bay Area via carriers such as AC Transit, Muni, SamTrans, Golden Gate Transit, Amtrack and Greyhound; and WHEREAS, the site of the Transbay Transit Terminal is also the best possible location for a downtown rail station serving CalTrain and making possible high speed intercity rail and the reintroduction of light rail from the East Bay ( "Baylink "); and WHEREAS, numerous studies have been done on the Transbay Transit Terminal over the last thirty years, all of which concluded that the Transbay Terminal should be expanded and modernized either through renovation of the existing building or construction of a new building on the site, making it more efficient and attractive to potential passengers. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Alameda that the City of Alameda: 1. Supports retaining a transit hub at the site of the existing Transbay Transit Terminal with direct access to the Bay Bridge; and 2. Supports the expansion and modernization of the Transbay Transit Terminal or construction of a new facility at this site so that it will be safer, more efficient and more attractive to potential passengers and transit operators. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to Preston Kelley, District Director, Caltrans. I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 6th day of July 1993, by the following vote to wit: Councilmembers Appezzato, Arnerich, Lucas, Roth and President Withrow - 5.
