Resolution 12461CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 3.2461 SUPPORTING PROPOSITION 172 AND MEASURE "A" (LOCAL PUBLIC SAFETY PROTECTION AND IMPROVEMENT ACT OF 1993) WHEREAS, the Governor of California has extended the one- half cent sales tax from July 1, 1993 to December 31, 1993 with the specific intent that those additional tax dollars be spent at the County and City levels of government for public safety purposes; and WHEREAS, the State of California has placed Proposition 172 and Alameda County has placed Measure "A" on the November 1993 General Election ballots, asking the citizens of California to permanently renew the one-half cent sales tax to be used for public safety purposes by County and City governments; and WHEREAS, the County of Alameda has passed a resolution supporting the passage of Proposition 172 and Measure "A"; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Alameda wishes to inform the community of the critical importance of Proposition 172 and Measure "A" being passed in the November elections; and WHEREAS, failure to pass Proposition 172 and Measure "A" will have devastating effects on County and City public safety departments by virtually stripping them of the resources required to carry out their responsibilities; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Alameda recognizes the extreme importance of public safety in our community; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Alameda intends to use all revenues generated by Proposition 172 and Measure "A", if passed, for the exclusive purpose of supporting local public safety capabilities, and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Alameda wishes to encourage all citizens to vote for the passage of Proposition 172 and Measure "A", NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Alameda takes a strong affirmative stand on Proposition 172 and Measure "A" and does hereby adopt this resolution in support of Proposition 172 and Measure "A". BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby directed to forward a certified copy of this resolution to the Governor of California. I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 5th day of October , 1993, by the following vote to wit: AYES: Councilmembers Appezzato, Arnerich, Lucas, Roth and President Withrow - 5.
