Resolution 12499CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 12499 RECOGNIZING REDWOOD DAY SCHOOL AS AN ASSET TO THE COMMUNITY AND SUPPORTING REDWOOD DAY SCHOOL'S RELOCATION WITHIN THE CITY OF ALAMEDA WHEREAS, Redwood Day School moved from Oakland on Redwood Road to the former Franklin School on October 22, 1985; and WHEREAS, the lease between Redwood Day and Alameda Unified School District was reviewed in 1990; and WHEREAS, the current lease between Redwood Day and Alameda Unified School Districts terminates on June 30, 1995; and WHEREAS, due to overcrowding at Lum Elementary, Washington Elementary, and Haight Elementary Schools, the Alameda Unified School District has indicated that the site will be needed to house public school children for the 1995-96 school year; and WHEREAS, one hundred eighty-six students are currently enrolled at Redwood Day School of which 60% are children and residents of Alameda; and WHEREAS, local merchants benefit by providing supplies and services to families which bring their children to school in Alameda; and WHEREAS, the Redwood Day School has achieved a reputation for educational excellence; and WHEREAS, Redwood Day School provides for an alternative to public education in Alameda. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Alameda recognizes Redwood Day School as an asset to the Community; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Alameda pledges to provide support for Redwood Day School for relocating in another site within the City of Alameda. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby directed to forward a certified copy of this Resolution to Joel Rosenberg Director, Redwood Day School and Dennis Chaconas, Superintendent, Alameda Unified School District. I the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 15th day of February , 1994 by the following vote to wit: AYES: Councilmembers Appezzato, Arnerich, Lucas, Roth and President Withrow - 5.
