Resolution 12546CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 12546 SUPPORTING SENATE BILL 1971 (BERGESON) RELATING TO CEQA COMPLIANCE FOR BASE CLOSURE WHEREAS, on February 24, 1994, Governor Pete Wilson's California Base Reuse Task Force issued its report on base closures and documented numerous barriers that threaten to inhibit the successful economic reuse of military base facilities; and WHEREAS, the Task Force report recommended several legislative initiatives to facilitate the base conversion process; and WHEREAS, State legislation has been introduced to implement some of the most important Task Force recommendations; and WHEREAS, Senate Bill 1971 (Bergeson) modifies certain requirements of the California Environmental Quality Act ("CEQA") that would apply to environmental review of base reuse efforts; and WHEREAS, the City may actually save resources and expedite the reuse of the base if CEQA requirements are modified by this legislation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Alameda hereby supports the passage of SB 1971 (Bergeson) by the Legislature. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk is hereby directed to forward a certified copy of this resolution to the President pro tempore of the Senate, the Speaker of the Assembly, Senator Bergeson, and the Governor.
