PITTARD AS A MEMBER OF THE CITY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Alameda that pursuant to Section 2-14.2 of the Alameda Municipal Code and Resolution No. 12149, and upon nomination of the Mayor, JAMES G. Diane Felsch, City Clerk City of Alameda CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 12598 COMMENDING THE UNITED PILIPINOS OF ALAMEDA FOR SERVICES TO THE COMMUNITY THROUGH THE OPERATION OF AN EMERGENCY SHELTER FOR WOMEN AND CHILDREN WHEREAS, from April, 1983 to June, 1994, the United Pilipinos of Alameda operated an Emergency Shelter for Battered and Homeless Women and their children; and WHEREAS, the United Pilipinos of Alameda sought and received State, County, City and community funding to operate the Shelter, thereby providing a safe haven from domestic violence and the hardships of homelessness; and WHEREAS, the United Pilipinos of Alameda enlisted the involvement of many community members as volunteers and financial t supporters of the Shelter program; and WHEREAS, the United Pilipinos of Alameda have worked with S? C3 - ,- other homeless service providers to improve and expand services to Alameda's homeless, including participation in the Alameda Homeless Task Force and the Comprehensive Homeless Intervention and Prevention Program; and WHEREAS, the City of Alameda Social Service Human Relations Board recognizes the significant and long-lasting impacts that the United Pilipinos of Alameda's programs have had on the lives of battered and homeless women and their children and -5 recommends they be commended for their contributions; and WHEREAS, the City of Alameda and the United Pilipinos of Alameda have enjoyed a long and constructive relationship helping battered and homeless women and children. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Alameda hereby commends and extends its grateful appreciation to the United Pilipinos of Alameda, its founders, members, Board of Directors, staff, volunteers and supporters, for their years of service to the community through the Emergency Shelter for Women and Children. FOR HIS SERVICE TO THE CITY OF ALAMEDA AS MAYOR AND COUNCILMEMBER TO ALL LET IT BE KNOWN that for his record of active participation in community affairs over many years, E. WILLIAM WITHROW, JR. has earned the affection and admiration of this community; and WHEREAS, E. WILLIAM WITHROW, JR. was first elected to the Alameda City Council March 7, 1989, and served as Councilmember from April 18, 1989 until he was elected Mayor on March, 5, 1991, serving as Mayor from April 16, 1991 through December 20, 1994; and WHEREAS, during his tenure, E. WILLIAM WITHROW, JR. has served on numerous agencies, including, among others; the Alameda County Waste Management Authority; Metropolitan Transportation Commission; Alameda County Congestion Management Agency; East Bay Conversion and Reinvestment Commission; Alameda County Mayors' Conference; Alameda County Economic Development Advisory Board; the Alameda Housing Authority Board of 'Ccmmimssioners; and the Alameda County Transportation Authority; and WHEREAS, E. WILLIAM WITHROW, JR. should be congratulated on his efficient response to base closure and reuse issues between the City of Alameda and representatives of the Department of Defense, Department of the Navy, NAS Alameda and NADEP Alameda; and WHEREAS, E. WILLIAM WITHROW, JR.'S accomplishments deserve recognition and commendation, among these are his role in establishing the Alameda Reuse and Redevelopment Authority Joint Exercise of Powers Agreement and the Base Reuse Advisory Group; and WHEREAS, E. WILLIAM WITHROW, JR. has encouraged and supported community programs and patriotic affairs. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Alameda does hereby express its sincere appreciation for his contributions of time, effort and experience for the benefit of the City of Alameda. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Alameda, acknowledging his energy and resourcefulness, does hereby congratulate E. WILLIAM WITHROW, JR. on his years and service to the community and extends its deepest gratitude for his many labors on behalf of the City of Alameda. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Alameda, City staff, and friends and admirers throughout the community and the Bay Area extend E. WILLIAM WITHROW, JR. their congratulations and best wishes for continued good health, success and happiness.
