Resolution 12980CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 12 9 8 0 RECOGNIZING THE IMPORTANT ROLE OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT FUNDS IN PROVIDING SERVICES TO ALAMEDA NEIGHBORHOODS AND RESIDENTS, THANKING COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS FOR THEIR SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY THROUGH THE CDBG PROGRAM AND DESIGNATING APRIL 6-12 AS ALAMEDA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WEEK WHEREAS, the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program has operated since 1975, providing the City of Alameda with nearly $23 million to help meet the needs of low- and moderate-income persons and neighborhoods; and WFFEREAS, the City of Alameda and other local governments have demonstrated the success of the CDBG program in customizing solutions to pressing local problems such as affordable housing, declining commercial areas, neighborhood and human service needs, accessible public facilities and neighborhood improvements; and WHEREAS, the Community Development Block Grant program has had a significant impact on our local economy, both directly through the provision of public services, residential rehabilitation, commercial revitalization and public facilities and improvements, and indirectly through the leveraging of millions more in private sector investment and in-kind community contributions; and WHEREAS, in the City of Alameda during these twenty-four years of CDBG funding there has developed a strong network of relationships between government, residents, businesses, and scores of non-profit agencies that provide services and help make possible our commitment to neighborhoods. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Alameda hereby recognizes the important role of CDBG funds in providing services to Alameda neighborhoods and residents. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Council hereby urges Alameda citizens to join in recognizing and thanking the many community-based organizations that provide services and help make possible our commitment to Alameda for their service to the community through the CDBG program.
