Resolution 12991CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 12991 DESIGNATING MAY 31, 1998 AS ALAMEDA STAND FOR. CHILDREN DAY WHEREAS, on or about June 1, 1998, Americans from all backgrounds will come together in their communities to take a Stand For Children and renew their community's commitment to improving the quality of our children's lives; and WHEREAS, on Alameda Stand For Children Day and beyond, families, citizens, members of faith congregations, schools, community-based organizations, businesses and political and cultural groups will join together as a local and national community to recognize our children's unmet needs and re-dedicate ourselves to addressing them; and WHEREAS, caring for our children must be our families', community's and nation's first priority; and WHEREAS, this commitment must begin at the local level, where children and families live and work and have the potential to thrive, and where all citizens, working together, can make a difference in our children's lives; and WHEREAS, in the City of Alameda there exists a network of individuals and organizations dedicated to improving the quality of life for Alameda youth from tots to teens who will highlight their year-round efforts through the First Annual Stand For Children Festival to be held on May 31, 1998; and WHEREAS, on April 23, 1998, the Social Service Human Relations Board of the City of Alameda, proclaimed support for Alameda's Stand for Children Day and urged that the City Council also support 1998 Alameda Stand For Children Day. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Alameda hereby designates May 31, 1998 as Alameda Stand for Children Day and further encourages Alameda Board and Commission members, and all local citizens to support this Day by partaking in the Stand For Children Festival and dedicating ourselves to the task of improving the quality of life for all our children from this day forward. I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 19th day of May , 1998, by the following vote to wit: AYES: Councilmembers Daysog, DeWitt, Kerr, Lucas and President Appezzato - 5.
