APPROVING EXCEPTIONS TO THE CITY'S STREET NAMING POLICY
AND APPROVING THE USE OF THE CORPORATE ADDRESS
DESIGNATION "WIND RIVER WAY" AS THE NAME FOR THE STREET
WHICH PROVIDES ACCESS TO THE WIND RIVER CAMPUS
WHEREAS, the City of Alameda has received a request from Wind River to allow the use
of the name "Wind River Way" for the street going through the central portion of the Wind River
campus, and
WHEREAS, the purpose of naming the street "Wind River Way" is to promote the
corporate identity; and
WHEREAS, many high- technology corporate campuses in other portions of the Bay Area
have used similar corporate addresses; and
WHEREAS, allowing the use of a corporate address designation such as "Wind River
Way" would help to promote economic development by providing additional incentive for other
corporations to locate in Alameda; and
WHEREAS, the approval of the proposed street name would require the following
exceptions to the City's Street Naming Policy:
1. The City Council would name the street without a recommendation from the
Planning Board;
2. The suffix, "Way" would be used, although the street proposed to be named is not
a through street, a connecting street, nor intended to accommodate a higher volume
of traffic; and
WHEREAS, the use of the name "Wind River Way" would conform to all other applicable
provisions of the City of Alameda Street Naming Policy.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
ALAMEDA adopts the above noted exceptions to the City's Street Naming Policy and approves
the use of the name "Wind River Way" for the street going through the central portion of the
Wind River campus.

adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on
the 18th day of August , 1998, by the following vote to wit:
