SUPPORTING THE SALE OF THE OAKLAND ATHLETICS TO OAKLAND
INVESTORS L. P. AND RETENTION OF THE TEAM IN .OAKLAND
WHEREAS, the Oakland Athletics have provided major league baseball enjoyment
to the East Bay for over three decades; and
WHEREAS, the Oakland A's have become an integral part of the East Bay
community; and
WHEREAS, the East Bay communities take great pride in being the home of a major
league baseball team; and
WHEREAS, the Oakland A's are in the process of rebuilding the team with young,
enthusiastic baseball players who are proud of their winning season; and
WHEREAS, the Oakland A's generate over $50 million per year in revenues, and
employ approximately 150 employees; and
WHEREAS, the Oakland Investors L.P., a group of local business people, has made
a bid to purchase the Oakland A's with the intention of maintaining Oakland as the home of the
team; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Oakland adopted Resolution No. 74965
on May 10, 1999 supporting the sale of the Oakland A's to. the Oakland Investors L.P. group and
retaining the Oakland A's in Oakland; and
WHEREAS, the Major League Baseball Commission has yet to make a decision to
approve the sale of the Oakland A's to the Oakland Investors L.P.
NOW, IREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Alameda urges the Major
League Baseball owners and Commissioner to approve the sale of the Oakland Athletics to the
Oakland Investors -I, P. which will maintain Oakland as the hometown of the team.
I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly
adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on
the 5th day of October , 1999, by the following vote to wit:
AYES: Councilmembers Daysog, DeWitt, Johnson, Kerr and
Mayor Appezzato - 5.
NOES: None.
ABSENT: None.
ABSTENTIONS: None.
