Resolution 13209CITY OF ALAMEDA RESOLUTION NO. 13209 COMMENDING MILLION MOM MARCH DAY IN THE CITY OF ALAMEDA, MAY 14, 2000 WHEREAS, the Million Mom March will take place on Sunday, May 14 at Lake Merritt in Oakland, this is an appropriate time to commend the local organizers of this event for their efforts in service to their community; and WHEREAS, the Million Mom March is dedicated to the mission of educating our children and our country about the life - threatening danger of guns; and WHEREAS, local and national organizers are working together to plan a national Million Mom March rally on the Mall in Washington, D.C. as well as local events and rallies in cities throughout the country, all on Mothers' Day, May 14, 2000; and WHEREAS, the Million Mom March recognizes the unacceptable situation in this country which results in 12 children dying from gunshot wounds every day, and so in response calls for Congress to enact common -sense legislation requiring licensing and registration of gun ownership. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Alameda that we hereby commend the Million Mom March for its work towards increasing the safety of our commu ity and do hereby declare that Mother's Day, May 14, of the Year 2000 will be recognized as Million Mom March Day in the City of Alameda. I, the undersigned, hereby certify that the foregoing Resolution was duly and regularly adopted and passed by the Council of the City of Alameda in regular meeting assembled on the 2nd day of May 2000, by the following vote to wit: AYES: Councilmembers Daysog, DeWitt, Johnson, and Kerr - 4.
